Description
The primary purpose of this conference is to reveal new perspectives of the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle to practicing health care providers in the US. Most of the speakers in the conference will be Italians who will provide a unique perspective on the Mediterranean Diet; its important foods, culture, history. Attendees will experience the insider’s view of the real Mediterranean diet; one that is considerably different than what is portrayed in the US.
Overview of topics
The topics will be of special interest to dietitians and pharmacists and will include: the history of the Mediterranean diet, the role of Ancel and Margaret Keys, health care in Italy, hospital/pharmacy tours, strengths and weaknesses in the Mediterranean diet, school lunch in Florence and the role of cultural heritage in food selection. In the afternoon, there will be special guided tours of historic pharmacies, cooking class, food and wine tastings.
