Overview: The Connecticut Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (CT Academy) is a non-profit, professional organization representing over 1,000 Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDN) and Dietetic Technicians-Registered (NDTR). They serve as the expert food and nutrition professionals across the state. The CT Academy is the state affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Academy). The mission and vision of the state group is: The Connecticut Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is the advocate of the dietetic profession serving the public through the promotion of optimal nutrition and well being by supporting activities of its members. CT Academy members are the leading source of food and nutrition services.
We are seeking a consultant on a per-diem basis, approximately 5 hours a month, to help us with one of our strategic goals which is: “More CT public will trust and choose RDNs and NDTRs as food and nutrition experts.”
Past and ongoing activities: National Nutrition Month, Go Red for Women, Food Day and an Apple Crunch, legislative events at the state capitol, health fairs and expos, and members providing commentary on nutrition-related topics in the media- print, radio, and television.
Examples of types of services and tactics sought to promote CT Academy as the group of food and nutrition experts in Connecticut to the public/consumers and to other health professionals:
Develop new PR initiatives that build and support the brand;
o Extend the current activities via articles using a variety of media tactics including but not limited to print, TV, blogs, website, podcasts, videos
o Seek opportunities for timely media interviews on current issues (GMOs, Food Labelling, Affordable Care Act, nutrition related-studies in the news);
Recommend: and help to implement social media exposure by increasing the number of non-dietitians who follow us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or subscribe to our YouTube channel.
Advance: coverage of all media and legislative events that involve the CT Academy beyond the use of CT Academy Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts.
Foster: (and suggest) relationships with other healthcare professionals (nurse practitioners, physicians, physician assistants, pharmacists, etc.), other health organizations and food and nutrition related programs.
Key skills required:
Flexible schedule (approximately 5 hours/month) to address current PR initiatives
Social and traditional media contacts
Demonstrated experience in PR, preferably as it relates to health care and/or nonprofit organization
All expected work will take place within the state of Connecticut and a monthly report including hours and tactics accomplished must be submitted. (OVER)
