My Plate-My Market
Throughout the summer and fall, CT Academy Registered Dietitians (RDs) and Dietetic Technicians-Registered (DTRs) will be volunteering at participating farmers markets to explain MyPlate guidelines to CT residents in a personal, hands-on way. CT Academy volunteers will engage with customers to answer specific food and nutrition questions and assist market patrons to get the very most out of their purchases of local foods, leading to the healthiest diet possible! It's so simple to get involved! Please refer to the list of market masters
who have communicated their interest in teaming up with RDs/DTRs to the CT Department of Ag. Find the market that best suits your needs. Once you confirm your date(s) and times to volunteer, be sure to bring MyPlate information, food models, handouts, recipes, etc. to use when speaking with consumers. Farmers are typically willing to provide you with fresh fruits or veggies for sampling. Be sure to check with your market master and local CT Department of Public Health office first to determine if food sampling is permitted.
