Licensure – What Every RD Needs to Know

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Policy Initiatives and Advocacy team is working to improve understanding of the value of dietetics licensure and the value of the RD for target audiences. Licensing of dietitians and nutritionists protects the public health by establishing minimum educational and experience criteria for those individuals who claim to be experts in food and nutrition. The state has an obligation to protect the health and safety of the public, and the licensing of dietitians and nutritionists is consistent with this obligation. Learn more...

Media Alert! The K-EDiet, A Quick-Fix Diet

There has been some recent media coverage on a quick-fix diet known as the K-E Diet, or feeding tube diet. Several state dietetic associations, including the Connecticut Dietetic Association, are listed as resources on the K-E Diet website. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and CDA do not in any way endorse the K-E Diet, or any other specific weight- loss plan. Please beware of this and review "Quick-Fix Diets Aren't the Answer for Lifelong Health" prepared by the Academy's Strategic Communications team.

ADA hopes its new name will help consumers better understand the role of the RD as the nutrition authority. For at least the first year, use of the abbreviation A.N.D. will be avoided and the acronym pronounced "and" will not be used. The www.eatright.org website and "eatright" portion of the logo will remain the same.
